jrNICIPALITIES planning to erect .11f1traftic signals should consider the points of the new Eclipse Rota-Robot, made by the Cardiff Foundry and Engineering Co., Ltd., Hurman Street, Cardiff. Rectangular in shape, the lamp is easily identifiable. Two lamps can serve as many as four directions. One colour slowlygives place to another, thus enabling the period that elapses between " stop " and " go " to be estimated.
The light chamber is a vertical cylinder, -Which can give one, two, three, or four horizontal beams in radial directions at 180 degrees or 90degrees to each other. The lamp is surrounded by a screen rotating on a vertical axis and
coloured alternately red and green in four equal segments. Should the main lamp fail, a stand-by lamp is automatically illuminated and an audible warning emitted. The time taken for the full cycle of four changes can be varied from a minimum of 30 seconds and any unequal periods of colour can be selected.
The driving mechanism and controls are housed beneath the main light chamber of the master robot, and this will serve any number of " slave " robots. The former is controlled either by pneumatic pads set in the roadway, or solely by the mechanism, which is then adjusted according to a predetermined plan.
