THE FREIGHT Transport Association (FTA) has called on the industry to support its Love Logistics campaign, which aims to improve the sector’s standing with the government and the public.
At last week’s second annual Love Logistics event, FTA MD of policy and communications James Hookham said: “The low prestige that logistics has with the public drives political apathy [at least] or hostility [at worst]. Logistics suffers as a business activity and as a profession because it is misunder stood, inaccurately portrayed and taken for granted.” Under the Love Logistics brand, the FTA will deliver an updated Logistics Report to MPs in September, detailing the industry’s challenges and achievements.
It has also launched the Logistics Toolkit, which provides a selection of games, interactive applications and information resources, for operators to share with staff, family, friends, customers, suppliers and the like.
“We need you all to join in so that this becomes a genuine industry initiative. If you agree with what we are trying to achieve, I want to hear from you – what more can we do, what ideas do you have? If you think that we have got it wrong, tell us how we can do it better,” said Hookham.
“I don’t think you can work in the logistics sector in 2011 and not have an opinion about its public image. I hope that the future direction of Love Logistics will be determined by a high-level group of interest from across the sector bringing ideas enthusiasm and, yes, money to drive our ambitions forward.”
