MESSAGES OF SUPPORT are flooding in for an East Anglian-based charity that warns it will close if its annual truck convoy is unable to continue. A Facebook page and a new website with a petition to show support for East Coast Truckers have been created, after chairman and convoy director Rob Billman said the police will no longer provide an escort service.
The charity has safely transported dozens of handicapped and disadvantaged children to a theme park near Lowestoft and then on to Great Yarmouth for a parade each August Bank Holiday Sunday for 25 years.
But changes in legislation and apparent concerns over road users’ safety have meant the police will withdraw their escort after this year.
