VOSA has unveiled proposals to modify its fees for annual HGV testing, operator licensing and non-statutory checks and tests.
The agency, which has launched an industry consultation on the issue, says most of the proposals will be revenueneutral and include: ● no general rise in statutory fees; ● reductions in fees, which VOSA charges for tests at non-VOSA test facilities, balanced by increases in fees at VOSA facilities to reflect the respective costs to the agency; ● 2% to 4.6% increases in HGV operator licence fees to cover the cost of a national register of haulage operators and their transport managers, and; ● fees for voluntary services, such as brake checks and non-statutory roadworthiness tests, will rise in line with general cost increases.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) says it is likely to submit its response on 28 July, the date the consultation closes.
“VOSA’s aim to reduce its £33m deficit to a £5m surplus across the year is ambitious, even more so without a general increase in fees; the industry welcomes its efforts,” says James Firth, FTA head of road freight and enforcement policy.
“Some operators could see their statutory fees reduced as a result of these proposals.”
