• BRS Tankfreight's 50 Shell Bitumen contract drivers last week voted by a 2:1 majority to accept a 4.3% wage increase for the year beginning 1 July.

The across-the-board agreement is part of a package which includes a cash settlement for the year ending 30 June.

Although basic wages rise from £208 by an average £8.50 for a 39-hour week, the increase will also be applied to additional payments such as sick pay, holiday pay and early starting money, says TGWU representative, Jimmy Goldbourne.

Drivers at the Ellesmere Port, Dundee and Bridgwater depots will each receive a separate lump sum of around £600 representing last year's delayed rise.
