Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• North Devon district council has added this prototype elevating tipper-bodied 4.5-tonne GVW Iveco Ford Daily to its fleet of 19 Sherpa-based refuse collection trucks. Its body system, built by If&J Withey of Hengoed, uses a pair of tipping gears worked off a single power pack. An under-body ram raises the body by means of a scissor arrangement, while conventional hydraulics tip the refuse into a larger compaction truck, The lift/ tip Daily, which has a 2.76tonne payload, will work with NDC's trio of Deutz-engined 2420 6x4 Cargos.

• Castlereagh Motor's

offshoot, Castlereagh Municipal Vehicles, has entered into a joint venture with KSGIEdelhoff to market the full range of West German Iserlohn refuse collectors from a West Midlands base. Since CMV was formed last may, it has sold 17 LP1000 20m3 machines, all on Mercedes-Benz 1617 chassis and all to customers in Northern Ireland. Two examples were shown at Torquay: a 23-tonneGVW 6x2 1617 had a Hofferman lifting self-steered mid-axle and full-size wide single tyres rated, like the drive axle, at 8.62 tonnes. It retails at about 1.57,000 and offers payloads of up to 11 tonnes. • A new front-end loader is expected to enhance Norba's leading (30%-plus) share of the UK refuse collector market. The first one off the line appeared at Torquay, fresh from Amrep on the west coast of America. It has strengthened front arms that can carry up to 4.5 tonnes, while the Mercedes-Benz 3025mounted body has a 14-tonne Payload. A single control in the cab adjusts the width of the arms to accept any size of FEL container, helping to make it a one-man-operated machine. The new loaders will retail at around £90, 000 depending on the chassis specified: the first one is going to Tyler, with another ordered by Cleanaway.
