• Atlas Hydraulic Loaders, Britain's biggest manufacturer of lorry-mounted cranes, has completed a record-making silver jubilee year with sales up 40%. Now it plans to launch a number of new cranes, including a new timber crane in the autumn.
Atlas-Weyhausen was founded in Germany in 1919. The Atlas crane factory in Blackwood was opened in 1963 and ex: panded in 1967 and 1980 to 5,570m2 under one roof.
Atlas sales and service general manager Steve Francis puts the success down to the company's response to market research and an improving after-sales service "coupled with an increasing apprecia
tion of buying a British-made product". What of the future? The market is buoyant, he says, • Atlas celebrated its silver jubilee at the Glasgow Garden Festival with a display tank of sea trout — fish-farming is a diversification for the company.
