EUROPEAN Type Approval does not have a category suitabh for this "Super Boss" Kenworth. Powered by a Detroit Diese 12V-71 engine "modified" to give around 1,000 horsepowe driving through an Allison HT 750CR automatic transmission the Kenworth holds the world speed record for diesel powered trucks at an interesting 144 mph.
The driver is Tyrone Malone, and he gave an impressive display of skill and bravery (not necessarily in that order) when he demonstrated same standing start acceleration runs on a wet track at Spa Francorchamps — the former and much missed home of the Belgian Grand Prix.
To see Tyrone unleash his 1,000 horses and have the massive machine fishtail up the track was a sight which caused the spectators to take two very smart steps backwards. Spon sorea Py, among others, Detroit Diesel, Allison, Bandag and Thermo King, Mr Malone certainly gives his sponsors good value for money. Quote: "I certainly couldn't have gone that fast if it hadn't been for the Detroit power, the Thermo King fan, which gives me 40 extra horses, and the Bandag rubber for the grip!'" Talking of tyres, look at the lettering on Super Boss's front tyre. How many of you have personalised tyres?
