'his was reported at the . meeting of the Surface insport Committee of rseyside Chamber of nmerce & Industry which )te to the Secretary of te for Transport urging to advise the county council to allow some relaxation of the present regulations. The minister's reply stated that the tunnel authority itself weighed the risks of having certain material in the tunnels against the advantages of allowing the maximum use of the tunnels. It was the county council's re§ponsibility to propose any amendments to the present restrictions.
The chamber's surface transport committee has decided to ask the county engineer what savings would be made if one of the two Mersey road tunnels was closed overnight.
