A DEFECT which developed nine days after a mechanical inspection has led to a Muir of Ord firm being given a final warning by the LA in Inverness.
Deputy. authority John Dalgetty, stressed the need for fuller examinations and daily safety checks. He told a representative of the Fraser and Ironside engineering firm that any future offence would result in the loss of their licence.
The firm was reported to the authority after a vehicle inspector found a mechanical fault in one of its lorries and prohibited further use of the vehicle. The company's solicitor, Kenneth Forbes, said that the man who normally looked after the vehicle had been on the sick list.
Mr Dalgetty said that a prohibition order was a very serious matter and normally resulted in curtailment of a licence but, in the light of the company's assurances, he was prepared to be lenient.
