Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A non-drip, non-run, hardsetting oil sealant has been evolved for pipe joints and gaskets by the RAS Advanced Sealants Division of Rocol. The sealant, known as the RAS Oilseal H, is designed for application to pipes carrying a variety of fluids and gases that include petroleums, oil, aqueous solutions of acids and alkalis, water, steam, propane, butane, coal and natural gas.

Applied by brush, Oilseal H is a thixotropic compound that does not drip or run from the brush or joint on application. These properties make it particularly effective for sealing even vertically positioned flanges. It can either be brushed out to give a thin coating of sealant to the joint or, if required, it may be applied thickly to make up deficiencies in threads or flanges.

The sealant is claimed to withstand pressures up to 2000 psi and to have good wetting properties and surface adhesion. It is non-tacky but flexible and is not affected by vibration or thermal contraction / expansion. Moreover, it can be used alone or with gaskets, hemp and so on, is clean in use and does not stain joints. It conforms to BS 1737 and BS 3245.

Available in 200 gramme tins with brush applicator and in 600 gramme and 3kg tins, it is obtainable from engineering and plumbers' suppliers.
