• The Scottish LA, Mr A. B. Birnie, has urged Northern Irish companies operating into the UK through Scotland to study the legal situation applying here and to operate in accordance with that position. He granted Northern Ireland short-term licences to two applicants, Boyd Transport of Dungannon and Lagan Transport of Pomeroy, both of whom admitted overloading offences through Stranraer. The offences involved 44 tons overweight in one instance and 5 ton 15cwt in the other. In granting the short-term applications Mr Birnie urged the two operators involved to advise their colleagues in Northern Ireland that the Scottish authorities took a very adverse view of these overloading offences.
