Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Edinburgh may soon have its first Sikh drivers and conductors on Corporation buses. The transport committee has agreed that the present general prohibition on the wearing of beards by traffic staff should be withdrawn and in the case of Sikhs, requirements regarding a standard uniform cap should be relaxed to allow the wearing of a turban of an approved colour with departmental badge.

It is expected that about 12 Sikhs —mostly young men educated in Britain — will now apply for jobs on the buses.

After the meeting, Mr Ronald Cox, transport manager, said "We receive compliments from visitors from all over the world on the turnout of our staff and we are anxious to uphold this good record. New uniforms will be introduced in a short time, allowing an even higher standard of appearance. It is likely that the colour of turban to be used will match the uniforms, which will be grey with maroon piping".
