4111 Trials of the second of two prototype battery-electric buses sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry, and built by Crompton Leyland Electricars Ltd, Tredegar, began in Liverpool last week. The Willowbrook-bodied bus is similar to the model introduced in Leeds (CM March 17), and has entered service on Merseyside PTE's City ride route.
• Concessionary bus fares for old and disabled people are to be introduced by Consett, Durham council on October I. Between 4000 and 5000 people will be eligible and the cost to the council will he about £15,000 per annum. The council approved the plan, following petitions from several old people's organizations.
