Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial vehicle exhibits at last week's Essex County Show, one of the most popular of the Home Counties' summer events, included a strong contingent of foreign makes led by an impressive Scania display. This was arranged by Scantrucks Ltd, of Purfleet, and comprised new tractive units for Brain Haulage Ltd, MAT Ltd, as well as a (CraneFruehauf) drawbar trailer combination. Another vehicle, an L80 chassis fitted with Sheppard-Meiller Mk III bucketloader equipment, was identical with a unit recently supplied to Havering Waste Disposal Ltd (picture 1).

The Reclland Purle Group showed the first of its new Volvo F86-based sludge gulpers (2). The vehicle has a 3000-gal tank built by Yorkshire Vehicles Ltd, of Leeds. Ford commercial vehicles included a DT 2417 double-drive dump truck with Telehoist scow-end body and underbody tipping gear. The unit, with Goodyear Super Singles on the rear bogie, was shown by South Essex Motors Ltd, of Basildon (3).

The Tiptree Manure Co Ltd exhibited one of the latest additions to the fleet of heavy

vehicles used fo'r the haulage of turf, topsoil, chalk and lime. This was a Scammell eightwheeler with a 20 cu yd Telehoist alloy body (4). Another lightweight body by E. Crow, of Cleator Moor, Cumberland, was shown by .1. Day (Chelmsford) Ltd on a Dodge K 1050 chassis. The Ecrolite dropside body fitted with Edbro front-end tipping gear has a glazed aperture in the headboard (5).

The prototype of a new high-lift tipping trailer shown in the farm machinery section was of a design suitable for possible cv applications. The Essex show exhibit, built by ECP (Resins) Ltd, of Alfreton, Derbyshire, was on a close-coupled two-axle trailer frame and incorporated hydraulics for a scissors-lift mechanism to raise the 7-ton payload body to a height of approximately 10ft before tipping (6).

Making one of its first show appearances in England, the Peugeot J7 front-wheel-drive van was on the stand of D. A. Cornell Ltd, of Writtle. The low-loading height makes this vehilce of interest as a small livestock carrier or for other agricultural purposes (7).
