Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

that can be employed in the hydraulic lifting gear of a tipping vehicle?

ANo, but as multi-stage rams are only

required if the gear is fitted at the front of the body, they normally have to provide resistance to side forces and providing the necessary strength involves a high weight penalty. Lighter rams can theoretically be used if a stabilizer is fitted, but it should be appreciated that extra stages must be provided at the base of the ram and each section is of necessity heavier than the section above it. If provision is made for extra resistance to side thrust, the stroke of the ram is reduced.
