Q CONE hauliers J. and D. Craik & Sons lost four goods licences in Dundee last week.
Mr. L. A. Wells, deputy Scottish LA, allowed the firm to keep one licence and told Mr. James Craik, a partner with his father, that he was pushing his discretion to the utmost. Four licences were revoked because one vehicle had been sold and three were not used.
The fifth had been used illegally by another firm. Mr. Wells said he had no doubt this licence should also be revoked but there was a shortage of tipper lorries in the Perth area and he hoped the licence would help the firm.
Mr. Craik said he was asked back into the business by his father when he left after family squabbles. He was trying to re-establish the firm. It owed £3,000 and had attempted to sell out to meet its creditors. Now it had come to a financial arrangement to ensure payment.
