THE CHANCELLOR of the Exchequer was asked to reduce the burden of fuel tax and to make investment grants applicable to commercial vehicles by a joint RHA-TRTA delegation on Monday.
The delegation stressed that in the past two years the industry had had to bear two increases in fuel tax, a 50 per cent increase in excise duty, the loss of investment allowances and in many instances the burden of Selective Employment Tax. New measures being introduced by the Minister of Transport would mean further substantial cost increases.
