• NCCS has taken over the klmillion-plus Fiat parts distribution contract following the collapse of Dow Transport.
Fiat was in the process of putting the contract out to tender when Dow went under and has simply brought forward the commencement date. NCCS won the contract against nine other tenders and completed detailed negotiations to clinch the deal in just three days. A fleet of 16 3.5-tonne Fiat Ducato vans and six 24tonne lveco drawbar units, together worth over £285,000, will be used on the contract.
NCCS will provide a fivestrong management support team and 28 drivers who will operate from Warrington, with outbases at Gloucester and Carlisle. The operation involves stock ordering on a 48-hour turnaround and a vehicle offroad service which guarantees parts delivery within 24 hours. NCCS will deliver to 350 Fiat dealers throughout Britain and Northern Ireland.
NCCS currently operates parts distribution contracts for a number of motor manufacturers, including BMW, General Motors, Honda, Ford and ERF. The NFC subsidiary held the parts contract with Fiat for eight years before it was won by Dow in 1985.
NCCS is now bidding for other former Dow contracts.
Leeds-based Archbold Group has bought the assets of the contracts division of Dow Freight Services. As part of the deal Archbold acquires a fleet of 50 Fiat and Iveco vehicles and three major distribution contracts, transporting parts for Lada Cars, International Motors (Subaru, Hyundai and Isuzu) and toys for CMT Wells Kelo.
Derek Ford, formerly contract manager with Dow Freight, has been appointed commercial director of a new division within the Archbold Group called Archbold Contract Distribution. Some 30 former employees of Dow Freight will join the new division.
