Commercial Motor's campaign to improve the image of road transport is "a non-starter and doomed to fail as all other campaigns started by others have done," according to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders press and public relations manager John Weinthal.
He used the Bus and Coach Council and Road Haulage Association's campaigns as examples of what he described as failure, when he spoke at the launch of CM's round-Britain 38tonne economy run.
He said there was "no such thing as a transport industry", the logic of which we challenge. He then suggested that to meet with any success CM's campaign would need to include British Rail.
