• Bedford — and its fellow General Motors subsidiary, Detroit Diesel Allison — are aiming to overcome the sales resistance of British operators to twostroke diesels with the latest Silver 92Series engines fitted to TMs. These engines joined the TM engine line-up in March and now Tim Blakemore has carried out a 38-tonne road test on an artic powered by the 6V-92T1A Detroit Diesel developing 266bhp. While this horsepower is less than most long-haul hauliers have felt to be necessary, its maximum torque is a strapping 1,276Nm. Read the conclusions next week in CM.

• Noel Millier has been sampling the new Dorchester coach chassis from Hestair Dennis. His impressions of a Dutch-bodied manual gearbox example are almost all favourable as he reports next week.
