Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

is made easy

TO SPEED UP the whole process of repairing the truck broken down in the UK, OAF Trucks provide an emergency breakdown service which is known as DAFaid. The service is in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week and available to all DAF truck operators.

Use of this service is simple. Once you have locked up your cab and satisfied yourself that the vehicle does not constitute a hazard make your way to the nearest telephone. Call 01-574 3658 and give details of your name, location, type of vehicle, registration No, symptoms/ known cause of trouble and if possible the name of your distributor from whom the vehicle was purchased. It is also essential to state what load is being carried, i.e., is the load perishable or hazardous?

You MI then be asked for your telephone number and requested to stand by until DAFaid establish the best course of action. Within minutes you will receive a return call which will advise you of the steps taken to assist you.

READ YOUR STICKER

Simplicity is the key note to the DAFaid service: the one central contact point for driver's trouble remains constant, and so that you do not need to commit this number to memory, or rely on a slip of note which invariably gets mislaid, DAF Trucks prominently display the number on a sticker which is positioned in every cab before delivery.

When you get through to DAF, you talk to a qualified motor engineer who understands and can offer constructive advice on your particular situation.

How does the DAFaid system operate? It brings together the network of DAF Trucks main dealers and service dealers to form a nationwide service capability. A call to DAFaid results in the DAF scheme establishing the location of the nearest dealer to the driver in trouble. A phone call to this dealer then advises him of the situation and as a result of the information passed to him the dealer can then decide whether the breakdown can be dealt with at the roadside or that a pick-up is required.

DAF Trucks are continually adding to their list of dealers. and DAFaid are immediately informed of changes to the list.

SERVICE ABROAD

As an extension of the DAF service throughout Europe and the Middle East, DAF Trucks have instigated an emergency service which is called I.T.S. (International Truck Service). In parallel to the network of UK dealers DAF Trucks have set up a chain of service dealers in the main European and Middle East countries to provide local repair and service facilities.

To ensure that you know the name, address and telephone number of each of the dealers, DAP Trucks issue each year an I.T.S. directory. Every new DAF truck is delivered with a copy of the directory in the cab. To the International driver, the I.T.S. directory is just as important as a jack or tool kit in an emergency. Maps are included in the book with street location giving the exact position of every service dealer.

PAYMENT GUARANTEE

One of the biggest problems facing the international driver whose vehicle has broken down is arranging payment. As a DAF Truck driver, if you are unable to pay cash to the repairing dealer, DAF Trucks can authorise payment for credit through the supplying dealer in the country of registration.

A telephone hook up via the I.T.S. co-ordinators very quickly makes the necessary arrangements. The majority of all calls can be dealt with in minutes and repairs can be put under way. DAF Trucks then invoice your dealer in the UK and you pay later in the normal way. As far as you are concerned the I.T.S. system means that no more large sums of cash need to be carried for unforeseen repairs, there are no currency exchange problems and all invoices are carefully checked by DAF Trucks for accuracy before you receive them. Operators going to the Middle East or Africa are advised to make sure before they go that they have a good degree of credit worthiness (a minimum of around £1,000).

The mechanics of the I.T.S. system are similar to those of DAFaid. In each country a specially appointed "I.T.S. coordinator" controls each repair or incident. He is in constant communication with all the dealers, and with several I.T.S. co-ordinators in other countries. When you phone the relevant I.T.S. contact No. you are immediately put in touch with the co-ordinator and he organises the repair with the nearest dealer. Close control of each call is maintained at the I.T.S. centre ensuring that you are on the road again in the shortest possible time.

The continuing increase in traffic to destinations like Tehran and Kuwait has led to DAF Trucks providing the I.T.S. along the main route to Turkey and through to Iran. Service points have been established in Yugoslavia, Turkey and Iran and an agreement with a leading transport company in Bulgaria at Pazardzik situated midway between the Yugoslav and Turkish borders provides help in this area. Two points further south at Abu Dhabi and Dubai have been added recently.

TRAINING

To ensure that dealers on routes to the East are properly equipped to service trucks from Western Europe, intensive courses have been specially organised at the service division training school in Eindhoven.

As additional back-up to this, the DAF Trucks mobile training school has visited each point on the road to Tehran for multilingual training sessions.

So remember: DAFaid/I.T.S. is only a phone call away.
