Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS ROADLINE UK reaches deadlock in discussions with the unions over plans to rationalise its organisation (CM July 16) the company opened a new Elm depot at Northampton this week.

The new depot replaces three local branches – Rothwell, which closed last year; Wellingborough; and Northampton town centre. Re-organisation has cost an unspecified number of jobs, but a Roadline spokesman dismissed the number as "not untoward".

He denied that the new depot was part of the rationalisation plans which have been under discussion for several weeks. "It is the establishment of a new depot conveniently for main routes and outside the congested centres of towns," he said.

When the Rothwell depot closed last year the staff were transferred to the Wellingborough depot en bloc, but when the Wellingborough depot was merged with the new one at Moulton Park there were redundancies.
