Seddon Atkinson reshuffles

SEDDON ATKINSON has appointed two of its senior executives to the main board of its holding company, Seddon Diesel Vehicles Ltd.

R. B. Ide, marketing director and F. G. Woodhead, secretary and comptroller, are the new Seddon directors. Mr Ide joins the board after only four years with the company following his departure from International Harvesters.

The company has also announced that it has appointed R. A. Hazell as manufacturing manager for Seddon Atkinson Vehicles Ltd responsible for all the company production operations. J. H. V. Bradley becomes export sales manager of Seddon Atkinson after being Midland area sales manager. The changes follow the reorganisation plans announced by the company over which former spares and service managing director David Gregson resigned (CM March 26). Steve Abel, one-time junior clerk with BRS, became managing director of Midlands BRS this week after two years as operations director of Scottish Road Services and Glasgow general manager.

Mr Abel began his career as a 15-year-old clerk with the Aberdeen parcels group of BRS managed by his father. The branch had been the family haulage firm before nationalisation.

Mr Abel succeeds Arthur Smith who last week took up his new job as managing director of Roadline UK.

Astran International has apppointed Graham Oliver to the new post of group general manager. He joins Astran from Leyland Cars where he was in charge of the dealer support depots.

His new job will mean that he carries responsibility for co-ordinating administration of Astran International and Asian Transport.

Eastern BRS has announced, the appointment of Colin Pounds, 31, as marketing director. Mr Pounds has been with Eastern BRS since 1969 and has been finance director following a career in accountancy. At the same time Richard Earl becomes distribution manager of EBRS. He too joined EBRS in 1969, but to help with incentives and operating techniques. He is also a former operations manager. Mr Earl moves to his new job from being marketing manager. Apprentices from Hartwell's Garages of Oxford have won the divisional finals of the National Vehicle Trades Apprentices Competition.

Working in temperatures of near 100°F commercial vehicle apprentices Stephen Prior and Chris Moynihan, light vehicle man Martin Jamieson and partsman Peter Withers with reserve Kevin Pettet won through to the finals of the competition to be held at the International Motor Show in October.

On the passenger front Barry Caddick, 29, has been appointed management services accountant to National Travel in succession to John Hope who has left the industry. Mr Caddick joins NT from DBZ (UK) Ltd.

East Kent has appointed Keith Morton as north-east area manager from August 9 He moves to his new job from that of assistant divisional manager (Merseyside) with Crosville.

Roy Turley is the new technical sales manager of Arlington Bodybuilders Ltd. He moves to his new job froni South Wales where he ha been assistant manager of th company's factory there.
