• Mr George Younger, Under-Secretary for Development at the Scottish Office, is inviting local authorities to meet him in Glasgow to discuss establishing a passenger transport authority in the area.
Announcing this in the Commons, Mr Younger said that the meeting would be held "as soon as is mutually convenient".
The Scottish Secretary would make his decision about a PTA when he had had an opportunity to consider the views of the local authorities.
In the meantime, rail grants for the Glasgow area would not be affected.
