• It was companies like United Transport Overseas that were helping to get Britain's economy straight—that was the message with which Sir Gerald Templer, HM Lieutenant for Greater London, on Wednesday presented the Queen's Award for Industry to UTO for its export achievements in 1970.
Many prominent transport personalities and senior UTO staff attended the ceremony and heard the chairman, Mr David Lloyd Jones, record the exceptional nature of such an award being presented to a service industry. He said how immensely honoured and proud he was that United Transport Overseas should have been singled out for this award.
