Renewal Refused After II Months'

Delay.

The renewal of an A licence for a 2ton vehicle to Mr. J. T. Howarth, of Liverpool, has been refused by the North-Western Deputy Licensing Authority. At the hearing, the railways contended that the applicant had changed his business and now ran to fe20 Scotland, instead of London, as hitherto, and should, therefore, prove the need for his services.

The renewal application, which has now failed, was published on August 20 last year for " General Goods, Great Britain." The first hearing took place on October 12 last, when an adjournment was granted after evidence had been given by the applicant, in order to amend the conditions, on a technical point raised by the objectors.

The amended conditions were published on October 15, the hearing concluded on April 27 this year and the refusal was notified on July 15-11 months after the original application had been made.. FILM TRANSPORT MONOPOLY?

Warning of an attempt to create a monopoly in road film transport was given by the chairman of the North Western branch of the Cinematograph Exhibitors Association, at a meeting of members at Liverpool, last Friday. Whilst there was opposition to that movement, he said, cinematograph exhibitors would probably be cognizant of the fact that the railway companies were also trying to obtain a monopoly, which would be still worse.

At the present time, exhibitor5 always had a stand-by in the railways, but if they turned over to the railways, they would not have a reserve in the road services.
