More Motor Wagons for Westminster.
The Editor, "THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR."
Sir ;—We are surprised to notice, in the report of the meeting of the Westminster City Council, as published in your issue of the 16th instant, the statement made by the -Chairman with reference to the facilities for loading we have written to the Chairman, as per copy enclosed herewith, We think it would have been better, had the Committee been duly advised that vertical boilers have been discarded by several leading makers, in the past, owing to the trouble experienced with them, and boilers of the horizontal type substituted with beneficial results. —Yours faithfully, For THE YORKS H IRE PATENT STEAM WAGON Co.,
E. A. JAammx. Branch of Deighton's Patent Flue and Tube Co., Ltd. Vulcan Works, Pepper Road, Hunslet, Leeds, 18th July, 1908.
[COPY OF LE riER SENT TO THE CHAIRMAN OF 'ME 'WE STM I N STER CITY COUNCIL .1 " Dear Sir :—We were amongst the firms tendering for the steam wagons required by the Westminster City Council, and, although our tender was considerably lower, both as regards first cost and maintenance,' than the accepted tender, we have no desire to make any complaint with refer_ ence to the decision. of your Committee, but we note you are credited with having stated that 'The Committee were advised, however, that horizontal boilers were not suitable for motors used for dust collecting, as they prevent the approach to the dust body for loading on both sides.. "We wish to point out to you that the type of boiler fitted to a steam wagon has no bearing whatever upon the accessibility of the body, and particularly is this so in the case of a boiler. of our patent type. We think it is unfortunate that the Committee should have been miSled by
reports of this kind, as our wagon, and we believe also all the other makes quoted for, can be loaded with equal facility from either side."

We enclose the original letter herewith for your perusal and, for your readers, betto quote it.---I ;an, yours truly, (For BRITISH PETROLEUM COMPANY, LIMITED), Rica.
