BEDFORDS GROUP has launched an online staff communications and HR tool, Bedford World, which enables the entire workforce, including drivers, instant access to company news, handbooks and guidance.

Each staff member receives a dedicated log-in, which they can use via desktop computers or mobile devices. They are then able to raise holiday requests, check memos, visit a live Twitter feed, assess drivers' performance and even raise confidential matters with a company director if required.

MD Steff Pfadenhauer said the system was designed to break down boundaries between management, drivers and off icebased staff — a tricky task with such a geographically spread workforce. He added: "The Contact a Director function is particularly important in breaking down barriers. We want every person within the business

to have a voice. Users remain anonymous, but the feature provides a direct line to the senior management team for their enquiries or comments."

Pfadenhauer also revealed that statistics on the use of smartphones and tablet devices "convinced us that there was an opportunity to utilise this technology, which the majority of our drivers have with them all day, every day".
