\ new business information vice which tracks the cornrcial viability of hauliers says ikruptcies are likely to -ease over the next year.

The Petroleum Distributors iligenoe Report says that the 'receiverships and more than liquidations suffered by fliers last year is an remeiy high level for one ustry sector. A worsening inomic outlook means that margins will continue to tighten and hauliers will have to work harder simply to stand still this year, it warns.

The report is written by credit information specialists Graydon and accountants PKF which began keeping confidential tabs on hauliers viability last year. They work for fuel distributors anxious to reduce the number of operators who fail to pay their bills on time.

Martin Williams, managing director of Graydon, says: "It means that if they run up a bill on one fuel card and want to move on to another, the major companies involved will know that trouble is coming. We get balance sheets and CCJs from all the usual sources, and put it onto one central database."
