AN EAST LOTHIAN coach hirer has had his operator's licence renewed, but only for twomonths. The decision was taken after the Scottish Traffic Commissioners heard from the Department of Transport senior vehicle examiner, Norman Meghorn, that there were "doubts" about the quality of the repair work being carried out on buses operated by Campbell's Coaches, of Tranent.

He said that a total of eight defects had been found on two of the company's buses when inspected by official examiners. The company's transport manager, James Suttie, told the Commissioners, however, that the firm's maintenance system had been improved since he took over recently and there were plans for a new workshop to be built. The new licence, will run from February 1 to March 31.
