THE use of an express coach service between Fusion, London and Liverpool's Speke Airport had enabled Aer Lingus last summer to provide a cheaper service for holidaymakers to Ireland and vice versa.
The Metropolitan Traffic Commissioners were told this at Acton last week when Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd, Leeds, applied for a full licence for the service, operated experimentally for the 1975 season.
Mr Don Jordan, licensing officer for Wallace Arnold, said it had proved a great success. Coaches were hired as a whole to Aer Lingus and the airline was able to charge an inclusive return fare of C26.95 between London and Dublin.
Authority was sought to divert coaches to Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds-Bradford Airports in the event of bad weather preventing landings at Speke.
A licence was granted for a period of three years.
