'THEFTS from British Road Services I vehicles have been reduced by 75 per cent. since Mr. Archibald Henderson, a member of the Road Haulage Executive, began taking combative measures last March. Drivers, officials and police have combined their efforts against thieves. Sixty-five lorries were stolen between March and September.
Defending a B.R.S. driver accused of theft at the Old Bailey last week, Mr. Peter Rawlinson criticized the degree of supervision imposed. "You would think," he said, "that men who drive such valuable lorries and cargoes to London and who apparently cannot take them into depots until the early hours of the morning, should have check points so they do not arrive too early. But such is not the case. Their lorries are not immobilized and are left in front of their houses."
