Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Executives Online can provide fleet managers in a jiffy compared to

typical recruitment firms, Tim Maughan discovers.

If large road transport and logistics firms are to turn a decent profit, they require solid managers. Such staff can be temporarily lost, perhaps due to illness. extended leave, or lengthy training programmes

Winchester, Hampshire-based Executives Online provides interim management staff to a variety of industrial sectors, including logistics and supply-chain management.

Managing director Norric Johnston tells us that his company currently has 540 logistics executives on its database. Many recruitment firms collate vast lists of candidates. Johnston's team, though, works hard to whittle down CVs into a manageable list. From the 30.000 it receives, only some 6,000 make it to the Executive Online'talent bank', the cream of the crop. Customers speak to the company.outlining the skills required for the job. Then the firm passes on briefs to the most suitable members of the talent hank. Interested candidates arc interviewed by Executives Online personnel; then two to four of the best candidates are interviewed by the customer.

"Some of the CVs we receive are good; some are appalling." reports Johnston."and the poor ones won't get on the list."

Candidates are only interviewed for'live projects' when a customer needs a position titled, With time, recruitment personnel can identify the CVs that don't add up. Candidates are asked to account for any gaps.

"We're specialists in fasttrack recruitment,"Johnston asserts."From the time the operator says 'there's the brief. get on with it please'. we make a shortlist in two weeks."

The talent bank is like a standing army. Its soldiers are already in place: as soon as the job comes up,the right ones can be mobilised.

Some companies spend months securing the right candidates."We can get a person in the job in four to five weeks, but a typical recruitment company would take three to six mon ths. We work very quickly," says Johnston.

How does the fee structure work? Clients using the services of an interim manager pay between £500 and 1 5(X) per day to Executives Online. In turn, the firm pays the worker."All the individuals trade as limited companies," Johnston points out. •
