a management team headed by managing director Philip Powis. The company was previously owned by Wbitworths Holdings. Lilley has 40 employees and runs a mixed fleet of 30 trucks, primarily on contract work in general haulage, sand and gravel sales, skip hire and waste disposal.
• The European Commission is contemplating sanctions against Switzerland, which refuses to accept 40tonne trucks, but the Swiss have come up with an alternative proposal in the form of a new railway line across the Alps to double the capacity for freight.
• Despite opposition, the plan to build a new A1iM1 link will go ahead, say Roads Minister Peter Bottomley. He has been under pressure to think again because of controversy over the route which runs through the historic civil war battlefield of Naseby. Work on the section of the road from east of Kettering to Thrapston is due to start in the spring.
• Daf BV plans to increase its international sales have been boosted by a new agreement with Thai VP which will sell Dafs in Thailand. Daf says the deal could lead to local assembly of its vehicles.
• Police are searching for a Transquip low-loader trailer stolen from the Norman Road Industrial Estate off Purley Way, Croydon, Surrey, on 14 February.
