I READ with great surprise the report (CM, February 9) regarding the reliability of the Daf coach chassis. I have been running Dafs now for over five years and have operated the chassis type in question, through to the six-wheeled SBR on UK and Continental work at an average of 50,000 miles a year.
I continue to buy Daf because of the reliability of the chassis and the personal service I receive from Marlow. My fitters have been trained by Daf at Marlow and carry out the maintenance on my premises and I cannot see why, with the help of Daf, a profitable and image-conscious operation cannot be run.
The downtime of our vehicles has always been negligible, because we carry out preventive maintenance, and here many operators could improve their profitability and inconvenience factors.
