BRITAIN'S leasing industry set new records in 1978 with expenditure by members of the Equipment Leasing Association reaching £1.214m on items for lease customers.

Association chairman Tom Clark said this week that the igures showed an increase of 80 per cent on the £675m of new Dusiness handled in 1977 — another record year.

Total value of the commercial vehicles bought for lease was up 35 per cent from £114m in 1977 to £154m.

Mr Clark added that with leasing established as a primary ;ource of finance for equipment there have been increasing opportunities for leasing companies to arrange major investment projects.

He said that the leasing industry had performed exceptionally well in relation to the total industrial investment level in Britain. Leasing now accounted for nine per cent of all capital investment in plant and equipment in Britain.
