A FLEET engineer who w responsible for maintaining vehicles drank heavily at took an additional week holiday without permission.
This was said at an indu5 rial tribunal in Edinburi when David Neil Smith, Uphall Station, claimed unfe dismissal against G & Merchants (Livingston), Houston Trading Estat Livingston, West Lothian. H application has now beE refused.
The tribunal's judgmei said that the firm operated fleet of 15 vehicles, and 111 Smith had sole responsibilii for maintaining and servicir them, buying spares ar keeping records. Mr Smit started work with the firm c August 7, 1972, and was di missed on August 14, 1978.
The firm complained th; Mr Smith had been drinking1 the detriment of his wor, failing to maintain the vehic14 properly, failing to ke vehicle records up to date, ar that he had taken an additi4 nal week's holiday withot permission and had been ii volved in irregularities ov( ordering tools.
Mr Smith admitted drinkin heavily, but denied nc maintaining the vehicles. 1-i said that he took some too because he was frustrated the number of his own too that were stolen.
