• An application to operate a direct coach service between Teesside and Edinburgh and Glasgow has been made by United Automobile Services Ltd, the National Bus Company's Darlington-based subsidiary. A spokesman for the company said that though some passengers might have to change at Newcastle, it was intended to run a direct service.
