by Brian Weatherley • Mansfield Brewery has taken delivery of an Iveco Fold Super Cargo dropframe 17-tonner and two New Cargo urban artics which have been converted by Chassis Developments.

The 17-tonne 170E23 Super Cargo rigid has a new chassis frame behind the cab with the central well rails and rear overhang lowered by 380mm. Chassis Developments also fitted its own tubular cross-members and Neway rear air suspension with the front pivot bracket incorporated into the drop forward of the axle.

The Super Cargo wheelbase has been extended from 5.67m to 6.39m and the cab lowered using revised mounting points. The drop-frame chassis will be fitted with a Don Bur curtainsider with the latest version of the Lazerloda keg hoist first shown at IRTE this year. The new model weighs 50kg less than the 300kg original. Weight has been saved in the original equipment and roof strengthening. All Lazerloda components are modular to allow easy replacement. A fully galvanised finish is also standard.

The wheelbase of the two 210E23 urban attics was shortened by 2.6m; Chassis Developments replaced the standard rear steel suspension with Iveco's four-bag air suspension. The company has supplied two similar vehicles to Whitbread and one each to Bass and Scottish and Newcastle.

Mansfield transport manager Peter Marshall says the dropframe SuperCargo will be evaluated as a possible replacement for the Daf 1900; the New Cargo tractors could supersede Mansfield's AVID urban attics.

The chassis were supplied by Sherw(x-id Commercial Vehicles.
