I have read with interest and indignation letters from F. G. Larman and John J. McKay in CM, November 25.

My husband is a bus driver and he, along with his colleagues, is among the most courteous and smartest men on the road today.

In complete repudiation of Mr Larman's letter, these men are not a complete menace at all. On the contrary, they are friendly, and it is impossible to generalise as he does.

As a point of fact, on the occasions I've travelled south, I've discovered the hgv men take the attitude "To hell with everyone else driving — make way for me," presumably because they believe they have the weight behind them.

These men, I consider, have the most selfish and dangerous attitudes.

Mr Larman may also be interested to know that my husband wears his uniform every day with pride, plus a clean shirt, and I know as I'm laundering them all the time!

His hair is almost a crew cut and, as for smoking, it's more than his job's worth to be smoking when driving when employment is so difficult to come by these days. So, simply, he does not smoke.

With regard to Mr McKay's comment about bus drivers being the lowest form of people in transport. I hasten to add that my husband has had a public school education, so I don't consider that comment is warranted.

MRS C. TAYLOR, Clitheroe.
