Robert Abercrombie has been appointed traffic manager of W. Alexander and Sons (Midland) Ltd.. bus proprietors, Falkirk. He has been 25 years with the company and served at depots in Kilsyth, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

The Glacier Metal Co. Ltd. (a member of the Associated Engineering Group) announces the appointment of James Campbell as director of the company. Mr. Campbell is head of Glacier's research and development division.

British Timken division of the Timken Roller Bearing Co., Duston, Northampton, announces that as from January 1, A. S. Paterson will be area manager, West Midlands; J. Gilchrist, area manager, Scotland; W. J. Lewis, sales engineer, London; and M. G. Clements, sales engineer, East Midlands.

F. Kenneth Short has been appointed managing director of the 24-vehicle Tyneside road haulage and stevedoring firm F. Short and Sons Ltd., which has operated a nightly trunk service between Newcastle and Hull since 1930. He is 38 and joined the company on leaving the Royal Signals in 1949. Mr. Short represents the company's stevedoring interests on the executive of the Port Employers Association for the northeast coast and is a member of the Tyne and Wear National Dock Labour Board. He took over the road haulage and warehousing operations on the death of his uncle, Mr. F. R. Short, in September.
