CAR parking in. the centre of Glasgow should be banned to avoid difficulties experienced by operators of, commercial vehicles. This suggestion was made by the chief of the traffic section of Glasgow police at an appeal inquiry last week when the Woolworth company objected to city council proposals that the store'-should provide parking space for 22 cats as part of their extension plans.

The council thought that stores should contribute towards solving the congestion problem by affording parking space, but Woolworth maintained that there was no precedent for this and that their type of customer did not use cars.

BUSES TO REPLACE TRAMS

AN application to operate buses to the Humber Bank industrial estate, when the Immingham light railway ceases operation, has been made by Grimsby Transport Department to the East Midland Licensing Authority. NEW LORRY NOT DANGEROUS

COMMENTING that the accident in which a vehicle was involved could happen to anyone, the chairman of Halesowen magistrates last week dismissed a summons against a driver for having a lorry in a daiagerous condition.

The prosecution alleged that the load on the lorry slipped, causing the front wheels to leave the ground. The defendant said that the cause was the fracture of the bolt head on the tipping gear. The lorry was new, having been registered for the first time in October of this year.
