SEPTEMBER'S record output of 4.538 commercial vehicles a week was again exceeded in October, when the weekly average output rose to 4,974

units. During the four-week period, 19.896 vehicles were built, of which 10,071 were for export and 9,825 for the home market.

Figures issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that vehicles under 15 cwt. numbered 9,553; 15 cwt. to 6 tons, 8.463 over 6 tons, 567; motorbuses and trolleybuses 1.177, and battery-electrics (excluding prams), 136.

During the 10 months ended October, 176,474 commercial vehicles were manufactured: This figure is only a little short of the total for the whole of 1948. Output comprised 83,781 for export and 92,693 for home users.

Octobe(s output of agricultural tractors numbered 7,248 units, and the total for the first 10 months of the year was 75.896.

In September. 478 works trucks were built, 68 for export and 410 for the home market. Output in the first nine months of the year totalled 3,451 units. of which 1.038 were for export and 2,413 for home users.

Exports Nearly £4,000,000 October also saw created a record in commercial-vehicle exports. Including industrial trucks and trailers, the number shipped during the month was 9,291, of a value of £3,914,579. The value of the 82,994 units exported in the first 10 months of the year was £36,228,772. This figure is also not far short of the total for the whole of 1948.

During the first 10 months of the year, 2,544 used commercial vehicles, valued at £1,077,071, were shipped, along with 55,258 agricultural tractors (£17,090.372), and parts and accessories valued at £29,555.151.
