TRADE-UNION leaders were 1 warned last week, at a meeting addressed by Mr. Alfred Barnes, Minister of Transport, and Sir Cyril Hurcomb. chairman of the British Transport Commission, that a further effort would have to be made to reduce costs to offset the Commission's heavy losse-s,
It is reported that union representatives were told that men would have to be dismissed because of redundancy.
The Minister said that the integration of road, rail and inland waterways would have to be accelerated if the present rate of loss (£500,000 a week) were to be avoided.
