FOUR Harbilt Electric model 807 multi-purpose vehicles have been delivered to the Argentina HydroElectric Board following a recommendation by the Board's consulting engineers in the UK, Metz and Maclellan Ltd.
The model 807, designed in conjunction with the North Western Region Transmission Maintenance Branch of the CEGB, carries an electrically driven hydraulic mast which can be elevated by remote control to lift a cable capable of carrying 32,000 amps up to 9m (30ft) into the air to earth overhead connections for maintenance purposes. With the addition of a mancarrying platform it enables inspection and repair work to be carried out at a high level. The vehicle can also tow a trailer with tools and equipment and can be used as a personnel carrier. Power for propulsion and for the operation of the hydraulic mast is provided by a 36V lead-acid battery.
