NEARLY THREE times as many people are applying for jobs with London Transport as normally apply at this time of year.
An LT spokesman said: "Our current intensive advertising campaign and the programme of big pay increases are mainly responsible for this interest, plus the promise of a secure job."
LT had more than 1,500 applicants last week. Normally, it would expect between 500 and 600 per week.
However, the system still needs another 3,200 drivers and 1,900 conductors if the present rush-hour cancellation figure of one bus in every six is to be reduced.
