LDoY Finals
NI its meeting last week, the Commercial Motor Lorry Driver of the Year Competition Council accepted an offer from BSM Industrial Training Ltd to sponsor a new trophy. The Council allocated it to fourth place overall.
The Council has also accepted a trophy from British and Irish Line which will go to the best competitor who has crossed the open sea to reach the National Finals. The popular B+I Freightway award of a passage for two to Ireland will continue as before.
To mark the 21st anniversary year of the LDoY Competition, the American Trucking Association's reigning LDoY, Mr Wilbur Moore, will be at Bramcote. His union, the Teamsters, are sponsoring the trip and he will take part in a surprise driving competition with the reigning British LDoY, Alistair Howitt,of Shell-Mex and BP, Aberdeen. Ailsa Trucks Ltd is sponsoring this event.
Mr Moore received his LDoY award at the White House for driving over 3,300,000 miles during a 37year career without accident. He says the secret of his success is that when he is offduty his wife takes the wheel. SECURITY at MIFT Ltd's new Manchester International freighting complex is to be provided by Group 4 Total Security Ltd.
Scheduled to open in September, the complex will include road and rail services offered by Acme Transport Ltd, Anglo Overseas Transport Co Ltd, Davies Turner and Co Ltd, Gentransco Services Ltd, P. Hauser Ltd and MAT Transport Ltd.
