A LIST of defects in new vehicles and spare parts is to be submitted to the Department of the Environment by the North Western traffic area maintenance advisory committee.
Mr C. E. G. Newby, chairman of the committee, drew attention to the poor quality of light bulbs and to leaking injectors at a recent meeting between the RHA and the DoE. At the same meeting, Mr J. Good ier of the Road Haulage Association outlined the problems which his members were having with securing lock nuts and lock washers on two speed axles. Mr Goodier pointed out to Mr Jagger of the DoE how a dangerous situation could arise owing to the design and tightening of the equipment.
The committee is also concerned about instances of intermittent and unexplained brake failure on BLMC Boxers fixed with Cummins 6354 engines.
A spokesman for the R H A's central technical office said that his office was constantly receiving letters about the difficulty in getting spares and their high price. But it had not heard of any serious defects in new vehicles delivered to members.
