Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rhESIGNED to trap ferrous contamina tion, such as rust scale and so on. before it is able to clog fuel lines, a magnetic fuel filter has been developed by Hallam, Sleigh and (Austen, Ltd., Widney Works, Bagot Street, Birmingham, 4. It is intended that the filter should be introduced in the main feed line as close as possible to the fuel tank in order to obviate any build-up of contamination in the lines, with consequent fuel stoppage.

In addition to the permanent magnet mounted in the transparent bowl of the filter, an 80-mesh gauze screen is incorporated to give protection from sludge and other non-magnetic impurities. The magnet is covered by a lipped brass sheath which may be removed readily for the extraction of collected iron particles.

Teits carried out using premium-grade fuel are stated to have proved the effectiveness of the unit. Extraction was estimated to ibe 100 per tent. when a gallon of fuel contaminated by 500 mg. of rust scale and 10 mg. of ferrous powder was passed through at an accelerated rate of one gallon per minute, gravity flow.
